Houston County New Days for Meals Provided Children during School Closure

HOUSTON COUNTY, GA –

The Houston County School District is offering meals at no charge for children while schools are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As of Monday, March 30, the district will offer meals three days a week, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Two serving methods will still be offered. Meals will continue to be available at four schools between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. in the car rider or bus lane; and district vans will continue to deliver meals to select neighborhoods three days a week. On Monday and Wednesday, each child will receive two breakfasts and two lunches; on Friday, each child will receive three breakfasts and three lunches.

Meals are available for any child up to 18 years of age. Children do not need to be enrolled in the Houston County School District to receive meals.

As usual, meals may be picked up from these four schools: Huntington Middle, Matt Arthur Elementary, Northside High and Tucker Elementary. As vehicles come through the car rider or bus lane, meals will be given to the family for each child in the car. This makes it safe, quick and convenient and allows the family to stay in their vehicle.

In addition, the district will continue to deliver food to neighborhoods, using the existing summer feeding routes. Vans will travel seven routes through Houston County neighborhoods to bring food directly to families. The vans will travel to stops all over Warner Robins and Perry to reach more children, especially those families unable to come to one of the school sites. The routes have been carefully planned to reach as many children in qualifying neighborhoods as possible. The routes are provided below with approximate times.
