Kanye West Running For President May Actually Happen, Says John Legend

Kanye West was not kidding when he took the stage during the 2015 VMA's and said that he would run for president. That night, the Blood on the Leaves rapper concluded his insightful Video Vanguard Award speech with his bid to control the oval office.

"If my grandfather was here right now he would not let me back down! I don't know I'm fittin' to lose after this. It don't matter though, cuz it ain't about me. It's about ideas, bro. New ideas. People with ideas. People who believe in truth. And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president."

Most people took his bid as a joke, but here we are three years later and it seems the joke is no more. Kanye has pushed his campaign to 2024, but he appears to be all in.

In an interview on the Dan Wootton Interview Podcast, John Legend commented on his friend saying that he believes Kanye West is very much serious. "He said it multiple times."

Legend assumes that West will run as an independent candidate although they've never discussed the matter.

"He's never told me anything about what party." John added that he believes the rappers political ambitions are inspired by the moves that President Donald Trump has made.

"He sees some aspects of himself in Trump and sees that Trump winning makes it feel like he could do it too."

Back in April, John reached out to Kanye asking him to reconsider his alignment with President Trump after the rapper showed public support wearing a MAGA hat. West decided the moment would be the perfect opportunity to let the world know his stance by screenshotting the private conversation and tweeting it out.

“I hope you’ll reconsider aligning yourself with Trump,” John wrote. “You’re way too powerful and influential to endorse who he is and what he stands for. As you know, what you say really means something to your fans ... so many people who love you feel so betrayed right now because they know the harm that Trump’s policies cause. Don’t let this be part of your legacy.”

Kanye went on to tweet an explanation on why exactly he chose to send out the private conversation.

“I tweeted the John text to show that there are people around me that disagree with me and voice their opinion,” he wrote. “I respect everyone’s opinion but I stand my ground. If you feel something don’t let peer pressure manipulate you.”

Once Legend noticed that their text exchange was public knowledge he responded:

“Think freely. Think with empathy and context too,” he stated. “Your words and actions have consequences. Much love.”

The Ordinary People singer added: “And since you’re posting texts, let me add that I have a new single out haha,” referencing his track “A Good Night.”

Reflecting on the conversation, Kanye had some kind thoughts to add:

"I really appreciate this dialogue with John Legend because I'm actually very empathetic. Im still the kid from the telethon. I  feel when people think of MAGA they don't think of empathy."

Will you be voting Yeezy into the White House?
