Kendrick Lamar, SZA Sued For Taking Artist's Work For 'All The Stars' Video

TMZ is reporting that Kendrick Lamar and SZA are both being sued for their "All The Stars" music video.

"All The Stars" is featured on K. Dot's Black Panther soundtrack, which he executive produced and curated. "Lina Iris Viktor claims her fine art titled 'Constellations I,' 'Constellations II' and 'Constellations III' are being used in the official music video for the musicians' song 'All the Stars' ... despite her refusing permission," TMZ reads.

The news outlet continues that reps for Black Panther reached out to Viktor twice in 2016 to ask her if she could either lend some of her artwork to the movie or create some new art for it. However, Viktor said no. Now, the artist says that these Black Panther reps did so anyway and she calls that "both an egregious violation of federal law and an affront to the artist, her livelihood, her legacy and to artists everywhere."

Viktor's legal docs also state the Lamar and SZA's music video copy the "unique look and feel" of her art, but also has "specific copyrightable elements" like "stylized motifs of mythical animals, gilded geometric forms on a black background, and distinctively textured areas and patterns."

The artist also adds that Black Panther promotes black pride and female empowerment, yet used her work without her permission and she's a black, African woman.

Viktor is suing for damages and is requesting an injunction that prohibits Lamar and SZA from using her art to promote the Black Panther soundtrack.
